Communities and Local Government (CLG) recently published a summary of responses to the consultation on the Participatory Budgeting draft strategy.
In March 2008, Communities and Local Government published a consultation seeking views on the draft Participatory Budgeting National Strategy. Specifically, the document sought views on the strategy as a plan to achieve the Government’s ambition for participatory budgeting to be used in all local authority areas by 2012. The summary document sets out the common views expressed and the Government’s response to them.
One Government response states: “tighter budget lines does not mean that local people cannot be engaged in how those funds are spent”. In light of the recent financial crisis, particularly in local government, it will be interesting to see whether Government is able to maintain this commitment to participation initiatives.
