Through Sciencewise-ERC's recent work and interaction with the public, we have learnt that there is real interest in the public helping to shape and contribute towards UK science and technology policy.
We have developed a series of pilots with key partners such as the Science Museum and the UK's Association for Science and Discovery Centres, who have an existing public facing remit, and who already successfully reach out to the general public.

‘Let’s talk about sex’

‘Sex, Drugs & Rock n Roll’ was the theme of an adult-only evening event at the Life Science Centre, Newcastle which attracted more than 1,000 people.
One of the featured activities was ‘Let’s talk about sex’, a dedicated dialogue drop-in zone where visitors were encouraged to contribute their views on the subject of sex.
What did people think on the subject and how much were they prepared to contribute? Should we vaccinate teenagers against sexually transmitted diseases, and what aspects of sex should scientists research?
