'Up for Debate' series at Glasgow Science Centre

Glasgow Science Centre is one of Scotland's must-see visitor attractions - presenting concepts of science and technology in unique and inspiring ways.

'Meet the Gene Machine' is part of the ‘Up for Debate Series’ at Glasgow Science Centre.

These dialogue activities work to engage participants with the ethics around science and support them to understand that their opinion is important and valued.

The centre runs activities with pupils, teachers and community groups both inhouse and on outreach across Scotland.

Related project - Forensic use of DNA

This 2007/2008 Sciencewise-ERC project aimed to find out people’s views on the forensic use of DNA, particularly in relation to the information held on the National DNA Database (NDNAD).

One of the key impacts of this project was to significantly influence the Human Genetics Commission (HGC) and its conclusions on the DNA database, including its subsequent advice to the Department of Health.

More information on this project, including the final report can be found on the project page.
