There is increasing awareness of the complexity of our relationship with water. We depend upon pure freshwater for personal use and crop irrigation and on the availability of an unpolluted marine environment for the fishing industry. Our treatment of the land affects the water table and our use of the sea affects the marine environment and coastal zone. We import and export water not just in bottles but embedded in the production of a myriad of consumables and services. To consider these topics and others the IoB will hold a lecture and discussion forum on November 24th to which all participants are welcome.
A large number of learned scientific societies are associated with the Institute of Biology by affiliation. These make up the Affiliated Societies Forum, which meets twice a year.
