Crowdsourcing is a means of gathering the collective intelligence for a variety of purposes. Such purposes include testing the practicality of policies, soliciting ideas to address problems and obtaining contacts or services.

Crowdsourcing involves an open call for participation, and predominantly occurs online where it can take advantage of increasing global inter-connectedness to find a diverse range of creative ideas.
